It’s Monday 06 August and that means the Fall 2012 term is starting to kick into gear. This week I’ve got a slew of meetings and a bit of prep work to wrap up for my courses. Then? Then classes launch a week from today. I’m going to be… a little busy this week. Hard to believe the summer is already wrapping up.
Appropriately, we’re going to shift our focus on Dust Tracks back to the Valdosta area — back to south Georgia. Though I haven’t had much time this past month to hike around south Georgia, I’ve still got quite a few sightings to report. Even when you’re busy, the South seems to always deliver if you keep finding a few moments here and there to get outdoors.
As for the little fella’ featured here, this is a young raccoon, Procyon lotor, photographed at Grand Bay Wildlife Management Area just east and north of Valdosta. Raccoons are abundant throughout much Central and North America. They’re quite mischievous and clever. Smart little carnivores, these guys. Cautious, too. This youngster took to a tree when he (or she) saw me coming. I snapped a handful of quick shots and continued on my way.
